The snowwhite time machine of Valencia
As the people of Valencia were afraid that the river Turia, which flew through the middle of Valencia, the river has been redirected. The dry riverbed was turned into a city park with a length of more than 10 kilometer right through the middle of Valencia. Perfect for lazing away, skating, jogging, sunbathing, reading a book or just walking around. Further more, in the park arised the remarkable City of Art and Science (CAC). A collection of ultra modern buildings with an opera building, an aquarium, an IMAX theatre and some impressive museums. All in futuristic architecture, and surrounded by impressive ponds, which give you the feeling that you just stepped into a futuristic timemachine.
Holy grail
The CAC area is in such a big contrast with the old city -with its cathedral, beautiful squares and pleasant small bars- and it turns Valencia into one of the most exciting cites of this time. Valencia, the city where the paella has been invented and where you can take a look to the real Holy Grail. Valencia is just small enough to discover by foot, and shopping is for example really great in El Ensanche. A city with everything.
Going to the beach in Valencia
The largest trump of Valencia is a perfect combination of city and beach. Just a few minutes of downtown Valencia, you’ll find yourself lying on the beach on Playa de la Malvarrosa, a long sandbeach with a boulevard with many restaurants. Or choose Playa Arenas, also great. They are both located next to the marina which was built in 2007 especially for the America’s Cup, and now you still can find the beautiful cafes and the hip lounge clubs.
To the market in Valencia
The largest market of Spain you’ll find in the heart of Valencia; it has hundred small market stalls in a large hall and this is really worth planning a visit. In the Mercato Central you will find fresh hams, oranges and squids. Do some shopping here, with in the back of your mind a lovely picnick in the relaxed city park? Valenica is quite a flat city, and has -in contrast with most European cities- excellent biking facilities. A great city to go out on a bike. It is easy to rent them for a day or two.
